Welcome Back my friends to another week of our Women In Business Series!
This week, I am excited to feature a woman that I admire, and truly call one of my closest friends,
Stephanie Barnhart of SocialMinded Media Group
Have you ever had a friend that just gets exactly what you are trying to accomplish in your life, in your business, and more importantly as a mom? Someone who has a path similar to yours, and they just get you. Well, Stephanie is that person for me.
Steph (as I will call her) and I have been friends since our college days. We have grown our businesses together, our blogs, and now our tiny humans are only 4 months apart! She moved to New York a few years back, and since then, her life has truly blasted off.
There are a million things I could tell you about the “friend” Stephanie, but you are here to read about her and her business, and why she is so inspiring! I just feel when you see the side I see you will find more of an empowering story than she will give you.
Almost 2 years ago a little miracle popped into Steph’s life, his name, Maximo. After having Max, something in Steph changed. She was always a force to be reckoned with, but in this new chapter of her life, she has become that and much more. In my opinion, and I have seen this first hand, motherhood has made her an even more talented women than I think she could have ever believed. She has something prove to not only herself, but to that little man that adores her so much.
When chatting with her about doing this, she of course jumped on board without question ( thank you, love).
I wanted her to share with you, just like all the other fabulous women I have featured, about her business, why she started it, and of course who inspires her. So here is what she had to say:
What is your business about? I started as a consultant and coach helping my friends with their small businesses when I saw they were missing out on a lot of potential business by not being on the Internet – whether social, local search, or even websites. Social media has grown so much in just two years that I have to sit down and re-evaluate each client’s specific plan of strategy consistently. It’s never boring!
How long have you been in business? I was free lancing social media and SharePoint development projects since 2010 when I moved to NYC. I officially launched my LLC in April of 2012 when I was 6 months pregnant. It’s my two year anniversary and things are going great, and SMG continues to grow every year.
Why did you start your business? I always knew I never would be happy in a 9-5 job. It’s why I spent most of my life behind a bar – engaging and communicating with people. Once I became pregnant, I knew I could never go back to just sitting at a desk all day while my little guy was growing up without me. I knew there had to be a way I could be able to stay home and be the mom he needed to have around. Talking to some friends, they said – why don’t you just start your own company? I started small- determined to make enough just to be able to justify staying home, and it has just taken off! Hard work pays off – I only work on referrals and word of mouth. I spend all my time focused on advertising and marketing for my clients!
What makes your business unique? Because we help others learn the business themselves. I always say technology, the Internet, and websites are like a mechanic. They tell you all these things are wrong with your car and to make it run properly it will cost thousands of dollars, and you just TRUST them! I am that middle person who brokers for you so you don’t get taken to the cleaners on your small business.
And one of the most important questions:
What other women business owners inspire you? All my clients and friends! The world is changing. More and more I see friends and acquaintances working for themselves, even if they aren’t parents. I love being able to interact with them and learn how they are able to succeed. We inspire each other. Small business, and the American Dream are slowly making a come-back. Especially here in NYC, you still see a lot of mom and pop shops, and then individually owned boutiques all in the same block. There are no Walmarts here. I hope it can continue this way. #buyAmerican #supportsmallbusiness
So as you can see my friends, Stephanie truly has got it together. She inspires me, and pushes me to be my best all the time! We collaborate together all the time on our blogs and businesses, and I am so blessed to have a woman and friend in my life that is on the same path.
Thanks again Steph for being a part our Women In Business feature, and inspiring women and moms everywhere to live out their dreams!
If you would like to get in contact with Stephanie, and have her talk to you about whatever questions you might have, here is where you can contact her!
Thanks again everyone for reading this week! This series is growing more every week, and it is because of all the great women behind it! Thank you again so much from my heart.
