Welcome back friends for another week of our Women In Business Series! This week we are featuring a pretty mama, who found her happiness through a time of struggle, and turned that into her own successful business!
Let’s learn a little more about Nicole from My Happy Place
I first met Nicole online through a fabulous auction that a friend of mine was doing on Instagram. Nicole was auctioning off some of her jewelery for a great cause.
I loved the name My Happy Shop, of course, because who doesn’t like the word happy and what it means! So I had to check out what she was all about. Her collection of jewelry instantly caught my eye, and I was extremely impressed.
Here are just some of the great items you can find in her Etsy Shop!
So excited for you to learn a little more about Nicole and why she started her business.
When chatting with her this is what she had to say:
Why did you start your business?
I’ve always had a love for crafts and making things. In late 2011 my husband was involved in a serious motorcycle accident and came home after a 3 week hospital/rehab stay unable to walk or move in bed on his own. We had a 3 year old and a 4 month old at the time, and I also worked full time. I immediately threw myself into caregiver role for my husband as well as my children, my job, our home and of course our dog! It was a very stressful time in our lives, but it made me realize how truly blessed we were. We were close to losing him that night but we didn’t. God showed his mercy and saved his life which gave us a new view on our lives! So although times were hard, and I was exhausted after taking care of everyone but myself, we got through them. He has had many, many follow up surgeries in these past 2 1/2 years, but we finally got to a point where we could sense our “normal” was coming back. It was during that time, that I found myself escaping to my craft room after the kids were in bed for the night to have some ME time again. My craft room truly was my happy place! It allowed me to escape my day to day duties for a little while and just listen to my music and create beautiful things. I’m so thankful that I opened my etsy shop that January morning – it has been such a blessing!
When did My Happy Shop officially open?
January of 2013.
What is My Happy Shop, and what do you sell?
I have always loved to craft and create things, and stumbled upon some rhinestone crosses one day that would make perfect bracelets. So I started making my own for my personal use and had a huge response from my family and friends over them! Everyone loved them and encouraged me to sell them, so I took a leap of faith and My Happy Place was born! While I love making beautiful things, what I enjoy the MOST is making other people happy! To spread joy with a little piece of jewelry or to create something special to remind you of a special part of your life – that is where I get the most joy. Even if I made no money doing this, spreading joy and happiness is what it’s all about!
What makes My Happy Shop so unique?
I believe that the customization of our jewelry is a great quality, and I have found that offering people custom pieces are what inspires them the most! I have made bracelets for Autism awareness, Pediatric Stroke awareness, Juvenile diabetes as well as Leukemia, Lung and Breast cancer awareness. I have also held several fundraisers that have been so successful. My 24 year old cousin was diagnosed with leukemia last year so I ran a fundraiser for her where I made $1100 in sales that were all donated to her to help with medical expenses. Right now I am running a fundraiser for my 10 year old nephew who is participating in a Tae Kwan Do national championship as a black belt. I love that I can help other people!
What other women have inspired you to start your own business and keep it going?
There have been SO many inspirations along the way! Through the amazing powers of social media, I have found so many inspiring women who are starting businesses! Carrie from Caroline G is always reminding us to take the time to bless someone else! Becka from Kiki La’Rue Boutique inspires me to give back and have excellent customer service! Those aspects to a business are so important and I hope I can take after them in some way!
So my friends, I hope you can see why this lovely lady was a part of this series. She has overcome a time with her family that has made her not only a business women, but I am sure a stronger women and mother. I am so blessed to have met her and wish her continued success! She is one to watch! Good luck Nicole, I will cheering for you all along!
