In the Spring of 2013, I stumbled upon a great opportunity for moms in the Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. It was called The Mom Con. Started by my now dear friend and business partner, Natalie.
I was so intrigued about this event, because I just became a mom, and this was a mom conference! How exciting I thought! Yay! I am going to learn about how to be a better mom. Well, I was wrong.
Yes, I learned things about motherhood, but I realized that only you can make yourself a better mom, BUT, there is always a community of others to help you. There are women out there that will be your cheerleader, and help guide you through the bumps and massive twists of motherhood.
The Mom Con was born out of a simple concept: there are two sides to every mom.
We take care of our families and raise our kids, as mothers. But we have our own goals, ideas, and plans — as women.
Maybe you’re wondering, like we did:
- Can I really achieve the goals I had for myself before I became a mother? Is it even possible?
Am I doing this whole motherhood thing right?
How do I balance my own needs with trying to be present to my kids?
- Can I really start my own business? How do I do that?
None of us have all the answers. So we created the Mom Con.
Because a shared experience is a powerful thing. It creates community, which allows for the sharing of insights, for sparking ideas and for collaborationion. Social media can take us a long way toward building relationships with each other, but it will never replace the power of face-to-face contact. The MomCon is a day to connect, inspire, and get to know each other — not just our online personas.
When I left the conference last year, I was more than just inspired, I wanted to be a part of this.
Helping other moms see how they can still live out their dreams became my mission. So, I talked with Natalie, and together we decided to make this event grow bigger and bigger.
She brought me on as part of this amazing journey, and I am blessed to be sharing it all with you!
We have some pretty great things lined up for this year’s conference, which is in Pittsburgh on Saturday November 15th.
Head on over to our website to learn more about registering, and becoming a part of our mission to make moms continue to believe in their passions!
It’s about being in a room with women like you who have big goals and have kids. They know what it’s like to try to do it all. And they want to help.
