Today on Day 5 of my Celebrating Thanks Project, we are celebrating Friends.
Friends is such a great topic to discuss, because I have been blessed with so many in my life. Friends from my childhood, college, colleagues that I have met along the way, and of course, all my new mommy blogger friends! My friends are my circle of life. They give me such joy, stress, and happiness all at the same time, that it is hard to put into words the many thanks I have for them.
People always make fun of me when I say I have lots of best friends. But this is my philosophy. I have best friends from each chapter or phase of my life (which there have been many). I hold dearly to those who come with me from one part of life to the next. To me, it means they were meant to travel on this journey with me through many chapters, not just the one that I met them in.
Of course I have lost a few over the years. It makes me sad to see that happen, but everyone moves forward, and some people get lost in your past. But, I also have those people who I have been friends with since I was five years old, so I am truly grateful. No many have their childhood best friend still on speed dial every week.
My friends come in all types of personalities. They don’t just mirror me, what fun would that be. I have single, married, and divorced friends. Male and female friends. Friends that I call when I have a major crisis, and friends that I want to party with. It isn’t just hand-holding in a crisis for any of us either; we’re there for each other to celebrate the praiseworthy times as well!
That wonderful saying that, “You can’t pick your family but you can choose your friends,” rings so true with the friends in my life.
So today, I want to show gratitude and thanks to all of you who I can call a friend. You have lifted me up, given me strength, pissed me off at times (which I am sure the feeling is mutual), and the best of all, made me always believe that I can be a better person everyday.
Thank you my friends, no matter how long you have been in my life, you are here for a reason, and the journey is fabulous with all of you!
What part of friendships are you thankful for? Have you told them you appreciate them yet this year, if not, do it today!
