Welcome back friends to part two of our How We Conquered Columbus.
For this part, I wanted to share with you all about our 2nd day in Columbus. You can catch up on the first day, and how we made it through the first night in a new city with an 18 month old, here.
Day 2 was jam-packed with fun at the Columbus Zoo. But, I only decided to tell you about the top 5 reasons we loved it, because of course, with an 18 month old, it is tough to do everything. And, we ended our day with a little dinner at place that we were proud to stumble upon, the Number One Steeler bar and restaurant in Columbus! YAY!
But first, have you ever been to The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium?
We had never been, but we were so excited to go, because of the great things we heard about it!
There are so many things you can do here, so I tried to narrow it down to the top five that we really loved!
Number 1: Stingray Bay at Jungle Jacks Landing.
I was not only amazed that they had stingrays, but how well they were taken of. The building that we went to see them in, was beautiful and so well-kept. The stingrays were splashing along in the water, you all you had to do was reach in and touch them. I have swam with them before in the ocean on vacation, but was so scared to touch them in the wide open water. Here, they are contained, and they actually swim right up to you.
Giuliana totally enjoyed them!
Number 2: The Petting Zoo
The Petting Zoo is amazing. Not only is it safe for little ones, like mine, but it keeps them interested. The people who work there, are so helpful, and even interact with all the people who come into the area. Each of them explained how them animals were fed, what kind of sounds they made, and even took them time to snap a few photos with us.
Number 3: Stings, Wings and Playthings Park
This is such a wonderful area for kids to play! It is just outside the Congo Food Court. We ate some lunch, and then let her run wild!
Number 4: Polar Frontier
One word explains it, fascinating. I have seen other polar bear exhibits, but by far, this is one is at the top of the list.
Number 5: Discovery Reef Diver
You get see and hear from an actual diver that is in the tank with the fish! So cool! They tell you about each fish they are swimming with, what they eat, and how they take of them. They even wave and give a little hello to your kiddos!
Of course, there are so many other great reasons to visit the Columbus Zoo, and we did get a chance to see much more, so here are a few pictures of this beautiful place!
The one thing that we didn’t get to experience that day that I wish we could have is the waterpark attached to the zoo called, Zoombezi Bay.
The little had about enough for the day, so we thought that we could come back sometime this summer again just for the that. So we are actually going back at the end of July to experience it! So make sure to check back and see what we loved about it as well!
After we left the zoo, we went back for a little nap, and it was dinner time.
We had heard about alot of great places to eat, but we wanted to just drive around and see for ourselves.
Thankfully, we stumbled upon something that I know all you Pittsburgh fans are going to love.
Its called, Gresso’s.
Gresso’s is the premier Steelers Bar in Columbus.
How we found this little gem was literally an accident. We got lost, and we ended on a street somewhere outside of the city. Cute little area, and what looked like a place that accepted children, screaming children that is.
They had an outside eating area with tables, as well as the inside restaurant and bar.
The best part, the owner comes over to us and starts talking. You know the normal, where are you from, how’s the food, etc… This is where we find out that this gem, is a Pittsburgh staple for all the Steeler fans that reside in Columbus.
So of course, I had to order the Famous Pierogies and the Fried Bologna. ( a dish shared by all Pittsburghers.)
We were so in love with this place, that I just had to tell you about it, especially if you are a Pittsburgher that lives in Columbus. It is a place you must visit on a Sunday in the fall, and tell me all about the fans that come there!
